Grand Theft Auto VI launches in 39 days. The next date fans are circling is Monday, October 19: the day the countdown hits one month. Here's why that matters, which parts are confirmed, and what would actually signal trouble.

The case for October 19 (speculation)

On October 8, Polygon's Giovanni Colantonio argued that October 19 is GTA 6's last symbolic milestone before launch. He called it “the home stretch marker.” But Polygon says the bigger thing to watch is a “gone gold” announcement, meaning the game is finished and approved for release. Polygon notes that this tends to happen about a month before launch on average, and writes, “Don't be surprised if Rockstar announces that on Oct. 19.” It adds that the date “very well could be the day we get our next look at GTA 6.”

To be clear, that's Polygon's prediction. Rockstar hasn't announced anything for October 19.

The confirmed checklist

Everything below comes from Rockstar Support and Take-Two's pre-order announcement:

  • Launch: November 19, 2026.
  • Platforms: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar lists nothing else.
  • Pre-load: begins November 12, 2026, at local midnight, for digital pre-orders.
  • Physical version: a download code in the box, with no disc. It's expected at retailers from November 12, and codes redeemed before launch begin pre-loading that day.
  • Pre-order bonus: pre-orders and purchases made before November 20 include the Vintage Vice City Pack.

Could it still slip?

Polygon calls a last-minute delay “very low” in likelihood, but “not unprecedented.” Its example is Cyberpunk 2077, which went gold on October 5, 2020, and was still delayed on October 27 from November 19 to December 10. Polygon also notes that Rockstar's past delays, including Red Dead Redemption 2's, were announced months before launch rather than at the last minute.

What would actually signal a delay: an official statement on Rockstar's Newswire or a Take-Two announcement. Look out for changes to the dates on Rockstar's support pages too. Missing the October 19 “gone gold” post would not mean a delay on its own, because there's no set rule for when studios announce it.

What doesn't count: rumors, leaker claims, and listings from unofficial sources. None of those confirm anything.

Mark October 19 on your calendar, but trust only Rockstar's own posts. Pre-loading starts in 32 days.
