GTA 6 SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS

There are no official specs — because there's no announced PC version. Instead of invented tables, here's what the console targets and Rockstar's history actually tell you.

  • No official specs exist
  • ✓ Console target: 30fps
  • ✓ Prep checklist inside
  • Verified September 22, 2026

The short answer: No official GTA 6 system requirements exist — there can't be, because Rockstar hasn't announced a PC version. Every "minimum/recommended" table you've seen is invented. What we can do honestly: read the console performance targets, apply Rockstar's PC-port history, and build a preparation plan that doesn't rely on fiction.

WHY NO OFFICIAL SPECS EXIST

System requirements come from publishers alongside — or after — a PC announcement. Rockstar has made no PC announcement: no date, no window, no store page (see our full GTA 6 PC release status). Publishing a spec table now would require inventing numbers, and invented numbers are how players buy the wrong GPU. So this page does something more useful: it assembles everything real we know about what the game demands, and turns it into a prep checklist.

The single hardest data point: Rockstar North's head of development, Rob Nelson, told interviewer Davy Jones the console build targets 30fps — and when asked about a 60fps performance mode, said he'd "look into that with the tech team." Translation: the game's visual baseline is a 30fps experience on PS5/Xbox Series X|S, and 60fps on console is unconfirmed. A PC port targeting high refresh rates in a world twice GTA 5's size will want serious GPU headroom. That's not a spec; it's physics.

READING ROCKSTAR'S PC-PORT HISTORY

Rockstar's PC versions are late, demanding, and excellent — and their spec sheets tell a consistent story:

Data table
GamePC gap after consoleWhat the port demanded
GTA 5 (PC Apr 2015)19 monthsScaled from modest rigs to 4K; the definitive version for years
RDR2 (PC Nov 2019)12 monthsNotoriously heavy at max settings; deep graphics menu, rewarded high-end GPUs
GTA 6 (PC ???)Unannounced2× GTA 5's world, PS5-era asset density — expect RDR2-level demands or beyond

The RDR2 precedent is the one to study: at launch, its PC version humbled GPUs that crushed every other game, not because it was poorly optimized but because its "ultra" settings were genuinely future-facing. Rockstar builds its max settings for hardware that doesn't exist yet. If GTA 6 follows suit, the "recommended" spec will target a great 1080p/1440p experience, and the ceiling will be there for 2028's GPUs to grow into.

THE HONEST PREP CHECKLIST

No date means no shopping list — but it doesn't mean no preparation. These moves are correct regardless of what Rockstar eventually publishes:

  • Storage first. Rockstar hasn't published a download size, but a 2×-GTA-5 world with current-gen assets will be big — RDR2 was ~110GB at PC launch and grew from there. Clear 200GB+ on a fast NVMe SSD now; it's free and it's the one upgrade the eventual requirements will certainly assume.
  • Don't buy a GPU "for GTA 6" today. With the port likely 12–19+ months out (pattern, not promise), anything you buy now will be cheaper and outclassed by launch. Upgrade for what you play now.
  • The sane baseline. A rig that handles 2024–2026 AAA releases comfortably — modern 6+ core CPU, current-gen GPU, 16GB RAM, NVMe SSD — is the reasonable floor to maintain. Rockstar scales its ports; GTA 5 and RDR2 both ran on modest hardware at low settings.
  • Peripherals are date-proof. A great display, mouse, keyboard, and audio setup pay off in every game you play while waiting — unlike a GPU bought for a spec sheet that doesn't exist.

FEATURES WE EXPECT (BUT CAN'T CONFIRM)

Rockstar hasn't confirmed a single PC feature — because it hasn't confirmed the PC version. But the 2026 AAA landscape makes some near-certainties: DLSS/FSR/XeSS-class upscaling is standard issue now, ultrawide support is expected in any serious port, and ray-traced lighting options are plausible given the PS5 build's visual targets. Treat these as informed expectations, not specs — the feature list arrives with the announcement.

CONFIRMED VS. STILL UNCONFIRMED

✓ Confirmed

  • No PC version announced — therefore no official requirements
  • Console target: 30fps (Rob Nelson); 60fps mode unconfirmed
  • World: 2× GTA 5 / 3× RDR2 (same source)
  • RDR2's PC port was extremely demanding at max settings (historical fact)

? Still unconfirmed

  • Every number in every "GTA 6 PC specs" table online — all invented
  • Download/install size; ultrawide, DLSS, ray-tracing support
  • PC release date (the entire timeline)
  • Whether the port repeats RDR2's "future-facing ultra" philosophy

Track the announcement on our GTA 6 PC release page, and when the real spec sheet lands, it'll be on the GTAVI INSIDER news wire the same day.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What are the official GTA 6 system requirements?

There are none — no official GTA 6 system requirements exist, because Rockstar hasn't announced a PC version. Any site publishing a "minimum/recommended" spec table today invented it. This page tells you how to read the console targets and prepare your rig honestly instead.

What do the console performance targets tell PC players?

Rockstar North's Rob Nelson said the console build targets 30fps, and that he'd "look into" a 60fps performance mode with the tech team — so 60fps on console is unconfirmed. For PC, that reads as: the game's baseline experience is built around 30fps visuals-first rendering, and a PC port would need serious GPU headroom to push high frame rates at higher resolutions in a 2×-GTA-5 world.

How much storage will GTA 6 need?

Unconfirmed — Rockstar hasn't published a download size. Context: Red Dead Redemption 2 launched at ~110GB on PC and grew; a world twice GTA 5's size with PS5-era asset density will be large by any standard. The practical move is clearing 200GB+ on a fast NVMe SSD and treating anything less as a gamble. We'll publish the real number from Rockstar's store page the day it's listed.

Will my PC run GTA 6?

If Rockstar follows its own history, the eventual PC version will scale — GTA 5 and RDR2 both ran on modest hardware at low settings and rewarded high-end rigs. A machine that handles recent AAA releases comfortably (modern 6+ core CPU, current-gen GPU, 16GB RAM, NVMe SSD) is the sane baseline to aim for. Anything more specific today would be fiction.

Will GTA 6 support ultrawide, DLSS, or ray tracing on PC?

Unconfirmed. Rockstar's recent PC ports (RDR2 especially) shipped with deep graphics options, and DLSS/FSR-style upscaling is near-universal in 2026 AAA PC releases — but Rockstar hasn't confirmed a single PC feature for GTA 6, because it hasn't confirmed the PC version. Expect the feature list with the announcement, not before.

Should I upgrade my PC now for GTA 6?

Not on GTA 6's account alone — the PC version has no date, and hardware bought today will be cheaper and faster by the time the port lands (pattern suggests late 2027–2028). Upgrade for the games you're playing now; let the eventual official requirements guide any GTA 6-specific purchases. The one exception: storage is cheap, so clearing SSD space costs nothing.
