These are third-party estimates. Rockstar and Take-Two haven't released any GTA VI pre-order numbers. The figures below come from market-research firm Sensor Tower's public GTA VI sales tracker, as reported by TechPowerUp, Insider Gaming and IGN India.

The estimate

Per Sensor Tower's latest weekly update (reported by GTA Intel as of Oct 18):

PlatformEst. digital pre-ordersEst. revenue
PlayStationabout 4.80 millionabout $468 million
Xboxabout 1.66 millionabout $162 million
Totalabout 6.45 millionabout $630 million

That's roughly a 74/26 split in PlayStation's favor. TechPowerUp says the Oct 13 snapshot had about 6.08 million and $594 million, so the estimate grew by roughly 370,000 in about a week.

One correction to how this is being shared: the 6.45 million is a worldwide digital estimate, not a US-only figure. The US-specific claim Sensor Tower makes, per TechPowerUp, is that GTA VI's US digital pre-orders are 148% ahead of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022) at the same point before launch.

What the numbers don't tell you

  • Digital only. Boxed copies (a code in the box, no disc) aren't counted.
  • Gross, not Take-Two's take. Revenue is what buyers paid (TechPowerUp says net of returns), before Sony's and Microsoft's store cut.
  • Modeled, and revisable. TechPowerUp notes Sensor Tower changed its estimation model on Oct 5, so older figures aren't a clean comparison.

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said in August that pre-orders were skewing toward the $99.99 Ultimate Edition (TechPowerUp). That's the only on-record comment on pre-order mix. He gave no count.

Other estimates floating around

  • Launch week: IGN India cites analyst firm Newzoo expecting about $5.2 billion in launch-week revenue. That's a forecast.
  • "$1 billion in lost productivity": GamesRadar+ reported an economist's estimate that around 1.5 million US workers skipping work on Nov 19 could cost about $1 billion. Several outlets have pointed out it isn't from a published study, and the inputs reported alongside it work out closer to $400 million. Treat it as a back-of-envelope guess.

When we might get real numbers

Take-Two reports its fiscal Q2 2027 results on Monday, Nov 9, 2026, after the market closes, with a call at 4:30 PM ET (Take-Two investor relations). That's 10 days before launch. Whether it discloses pre-orders is up to Take-Two.

GTA VI launches Nov 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
