GTA VI Is Now Adults-Only in Every Major Market

Japan's CERO Z and South Korea's GRAC 19+ decisions complete the map: GTA VI is adults-only in the US, Europe, Germany, Japan and Korea ahead of Nov 19. What each rating means.

GTA VI is now an adults-only game in every major market. Japan's ratings board, CERO, has classified the game Z (18+), and South Korea's GRAC has classified it 19+. The two decisions landed a day apart this week and complete the set: with the ESRB's M in the United States, PEGI 18 in Europe and USK 18 in Germany already in place, no major territory is left where GTA VI carries anything less than the top age rating ahead of its Nov 19, 2026 launch on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

Japan: CERO Z, the strictest rating on the shelf

Game*Spark reports GTA VI listed with a CERO Z rating on the Japanese PlayStation Store and Microsoft Store, spotted Oct 17. CERO's scale runs A (all ages), B (12+), C (15+), D (17+) and Z (18+). Z is the outlier: unlike the advisory lower tiers, it is a hard adults-only category, and retailers in Japan must verify a buyer's age before selling a Z-rated game.

In practice, a Z rating also shapes how the game is sold in Japan: age checks at the register, adults-only treatment in stores, and no sales to anyone under 18 — the strictest retail handling a console game can get in the country. The rating puts GTA VI in the same Japanese category as GTA V before it, and nothing in either store listing suggests a separate Japanese edition: it is the same game, carrying the strongest label CERO hands out.

South Korea: GRAC 19+, decided Oct 16

South Korea's Game Rating and Administration Committee (GRAC) published its decision on Oct 16: GTA VI is classified 19+, the top of the Korean scale and an adults-only rating, the Electronic Times reports. A GRAC classification is a legal prerequisite for selling a game in South Korea at all, and a 19+ rating brings age verification at retail and on digital storefronts.

The Korean decision matters for the calendar as much as the label. Ratings are the last regulatory gate a game clears before launch, and with GRAC's decision published a month out, every major board has now signed off on GTA VI's Nov 19 date.

The full ratings map

Here is where every major board has landed:

  • United States (ESRB): Mature 17+
  • Europe (PEGI): 18
  • Germany (USK): 18
  • Japan (CERO): Z — 18+, age verification required at purchase (listed Oct 17)
  • South Korea (GRAC): 19+ (decided Oct 16)

The pattern is identical everywhere: no board gave GTA VI a teen or young-adult classification, and none of the five ratings is provisional. For the region-by-region breakdown, including platforms and store listings, see our GTA 6 platforms page.

What the ratings do — and don't — say

A rating classifies the version of the game submitted to that board; it is not an announcement about content differences. Ratings boards do not announce regional edits, and Rockstar has not announced any regional version differences for GTA VI. If any territory's build does differ, that will only be visible once the game is in players' hands — nothing in this week's decisions points to it, and we are not going to pretend otherwise.

What the ratings do change is practical: adults-only handling at retail in Japan and Korea, age gates on digital storefronts, and tighter rules on where and how the game can be advertised in those markets. None of it moves the date.

Both of this week's data points come from primary sources rather than leaks: the Korean classification is GRAC's own published decision, and the Japanese rating is printed on the game's live store pages. That is why this story carries our Confirmed label — the ratings are on the record, in the stores, a month before launch.

What we're watching

Two things could still change the picture before launch: a classification appearing in a smaller market with conditions attached, and any store listing quietly changing ahead of release. We'll update this story and the platforms page if either happens. GTA VI launches Nov 19, 2026 — 32 days out — and every major ratings board has now had its say.
