Make room for GTA VI before pre-load

GTA VI pre-load opens November 12, 2026 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, one week before the November 19 launch. Rockstar hasn't confirmed the final size yet, so plan with headroom — the pre-load guide's planning number is 175–200GB free.

Check your free space

On PS5, open Settings > Storage to see your free space and what is taking room. On Xbox, open Settings > System > Storage devices for the same view. Do it now, while there is no time pressure, so November 12 is just a download.

PS5: add an M.2 SSD

The PS5 takes a compatible PCIe Gen4 M.2 drive, and the drive must have a heatsink fitted. Sony's official guide covers the requirements and the install, step by step.

Xbox Series X|S: expansion card

Games built for Series X|S play from the internal drive or an official expansion card. A USB drive can hold them but can't run them — the expansion card matches the internal drive's speed and slots into the back of the console.

Free space without buying

Delete or move old games before you spend anything. On PS5, PS4 games and media can live on an external USB drive. On Xbox, Series X|S games can sit on USB storage and be copied back when you want them. Deleting a game doesn't delete its save data, and anything you've bought can be downloaded again.
